Barbara E. Thermes, 73, lifelong resident of Wintersville died Thursday February 21, 2019 at Valley Hospice. She was born in Steubenville on September 19, 1945 the daughter of the late Emmett L. and Dorothy J. Lawler Harvey. She and her husband Gilbert “Gibby” Thermes owned and operated Gil Thermes Fencing. Barbara graduated from Wintersville High School Class of 1963 and remained a WHS Ya Ya Sisterhood for 30 years; she held membership with Wintersville Woman’s Club for 25 years, serving as president from 1998 to 2000 and 2012 to 2016, and served as chairperson at district and state levels; member of Laura E. McGowan Circle of I.O.K.D.S. from 2003 until 2016; a member of Toronto Red Hat Society and First Westminster Presbyterian Church in Steubenville. Barbara conducted a long-term bible study in her home. She performed Christian music in many places and wrote a musical that her Sunday school class performed. She is survived by her husband Gilbert “Gibby” Thermes at home, children Lesa Thermes-Costlow, Leslie Thermes (who cared for her at home during her illness) and Tanner Thermes, three grandchildren Zachary, Joshua and Megan Costlow, great granddaughter Chloe Costlow, brother Robert Harvey and sister Bonnie DiDomenico. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 2, 2019 at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, 235 North 4th Street, Steubenville with Rev. Jason Elliott officiating. Friends are invited to attend a luncheon immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Westminster.
