Captain Harold J. Riley

Captain Harold J. Riley, 85, of Belpre, OH departed this life on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at his home in Steubenville.  He was born in Eatons, West Virginia on May 30, 1932 a son of the late Jesse G. and Edith Marlow Riley.  Captain Riley retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1980 following 21 years active duty and 9 years in the Fleet Reserve.  He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  He had been a Drill Instructor for 5 years, A Tank Unit Leader, an Atomic, Biological and Chemical Warfare Monitor, a Marksmanship Instructor, Instructor at Officers Candidate School and four years as Classified Files Librarian at Headquarters Marine Corps.  He was a member of Belpre Church of Christ and American Legion Post 495 of Belpre, OH. I addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son; four brothers Gilbert Riley of Waverly, WV, Chief W.O. Delbert Riley of the U.S. Coast Guard, Edwin Riley of Walker, WV and Sgt. James Riley of the U.S. Army, killed in Vietnam; three sisters Alice Riley Greiner, Roberta Riley Lee and Grace Riley Hively.  He is survived by his wife of 62.5 years Mary “Helen” Rector Riley; son Richard Riley; daughter Joyce (Robert) Moody; grandchildren Jesse (Stephanie) Riley, Samuel Riley, Trevor Riley, Evan (Alyssa) Riley, Jessica Lovano, Christopher Lovano and Feran Lovano.; great grandchildren Victoria Riley, Lydia Riley, Julien Riley, Elizabeth Riley, Ivory Bates and Henry Riley. Friends may at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 3p.m. until time of services at 5p.m.  Friends may also call on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from Noon until time of services at 2p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, 801 Victor Street, Belpre, OH .  Burial in Evergreen South Cemetery, Parkersburg, OH.
