Celia "Mimi" Sarap

January 3, 1927 ~ July 23, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Celia "Mimi" (Rakich) Sarap, 90, of Steubenville, OH, died Sunday, July 23 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born January 3, 1927 in Steubenville, the daughter of the late Rada and Sophia Grgich Rakich. Mimi was a graduate of Steubenville Big Red, and retired after her long tenure as manager of the Ohio Valley Hospital Gift Shop. Mimi was a lifelong member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church. She was also a member of the Sveta Petka Kolo. She was a loving, caring daughter, wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, as was she, theirs. Mimi never met a stranger as she befriended and remembered everyone she met throughout her life. She was a friend and counselor to school children when she worked at the McKinley Confectionary; patients, families, student nurses and staff during her time at the hospital gift shop and even those caring for her during her illness. She cherished every minute with her family and friends. Her life was a shining example of a life well lived. Her smile and kind words will be missed by all. In addition to her parents, Mimi was preceded in death by her husband, George Sarap, sister, Dean “Dunnie” Rakich and brother-in-law Harold “Burns” Carter, brother Duke Rakich and nephew Raymond “Punkin” Carter. Surviving are sons George Sarap of Steubenville and Michael (Cindy) Sarap of Cambridge, OH, daughter Kim (Jerry) Wissman of Columbus, OH, grandchildren Ben (Melia), Andrea (Joseph), Michael, Katie (David) and Geoff (Katy), seven great grandchildren (Josh, Abbey, Will, Kelley, Brendan, Camden and Keegan), sister-in-law Florence Banda Rakich, and many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. Visitation will be 4-8 pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH with Pomen Service held at 7:45 pm. On Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home followed by burial at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Cemetery.  Very Rev. Rade Merick officiating. Following the burial, friends and family are welcome to join Mimi's family for lunch at the Shorac Family Center, 166 Fernwood Road, Wintersville.  Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, 528 N. 4th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952 -or- New Cambridge Cancer Center Project at Guernsey Health Systems, 1341 Clark St, Cambridge OH 43725 or contribution of choice.
