Fred Brettell Obituary

Fred Brettell, 96, of Mingo Junction, Ohio passed away at Villa Vista Royale in Steubenville, Ohio on October 30, 2019.  He was born September 17, 1923 to the late Fred and Edna Brettell.  He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II.  After discharge, he worked as an accountant in Silver Spring, Maryland and then in Mingo, Ohio until the time of his retirement.  Fred was an avid baseball fan, and followed his childhood team the Philadelphia A’s even after their move to Oakland.  He had the opportunity to attend many of their games with friends and family which gave him a great deal of joy.  He always enjoyed playing card games.  Cribbage was his specialty.   Fred was a patient, kind and loving gentleman.  He was a friend to all who met him and will be truly missed.  He had a very strong faith and attended First United Presbyterian Church of Brilliant Ohio faithfully.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Robert Brettell and his sister Audrey Brettell Mathieson.  Fred is survived by his sister Doris Brettell Matthews of North Carolina as well as nieces and nephews.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at First United Presbyterian Church of Brilliant.  There will be a small reception immediately following the service to greet family.   The Rev. Ken Sickle will be officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to First United Presbyterian Church of Brilliant.
