John M. Abdalla

January 20, 1936 ~ July 24, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

John M. Abdalla passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Monday, July 24, 2017.  He was born in Wellsville, Ohio on January 20, 1936.  He was preceeded in death by his parents, John and Josephine, his brother Samuel and infant sister Joanne.  John is survived by his wife Rose Cave Abdalla, his six children, Josephine (Eli) Yaich, Helen, John (Stephanie), Edward, Philip (Misty) and Robert (Tracey), his eight cherished grandchildren, Megan (Mark), Alex, Morgan (Nick), Zac, Kelsey, Austin, Jessica and Cori, along with two great grandsons, Max and Christopher.  John is also survived by his sister Genevieve, brothers Fred (Edna) and Edward (Ralph) and sister-in-law Joyce Abdalla along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. 

John graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central Class of '54 and attended both The Ohio State University and the College of Steubenville.  He was the Mayor of Stratton, and owner of Abdalla's Steakhouse. He was Chairman of the Democratic Party of Jefferson County, former member of the Jefferson County Board of Elections and a retired Boilermaker of Local 154.  He also previously served on the Board of Health and Board of Waste Management, both of Jefferson County.  John was also a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Wintersville. 

John dearly loved his family, friends and country. He was a loyal and generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.  His strength of character, sense of duty, spirit of gratitude and compassionate nature will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him. 

Visitation will be Thursday 2-8pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 852 Main Street, Wintersville, OH, where funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday with interment immediately following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to either Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (852 Main St. Wintersville, OH 43952) or the Salvation Army of Steubenville (PO Box 4668 Steubenville, OH 43952)
