William David Welch, Sr., 83, of Wintersville, OH was called home to the Lord on Wednesday,

February 28, with his devoted wife Lydia and their children by his side. He was born March 16,

1934 in Wheeling, WV. Dave was the son of the late Thomas and Marjorie (Fish) Welch of

McMechen, WV. He was a graduate of West Liberty State College and earned his MEd

Administration at West Virginia University. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in

death by his brother Thomas and infant sister Judith Ann Welch. 

Dave will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 54 years Lydia (Lollini) and their children Wm.

David Welch, Jr. (Lisa Kemmett) of Richfield, OH, Christopher (Tracey) Welch of Follansbee,

WV, Amy (Lance) Davis of Copley, OH and Jamie (Brian) Perkins of Wintersville. Dave’s pride

and joy were his grandchildren Kyle, Alexa, Kelaen and Olivia Welch, Casey and Josh Davis,

Camryn Ketron and Zach Perkins. In addition to his immediate family, Dave was well loved by

his brothers and sisters-in-law Marc and Marge Lollini, Elaine Hogan, Ty and Patty Lollini and

Gayle Bolock and many nieces and nephews.

Many in the community will remember Dave as a teacher, coach, and as head principal of

Mingo High School. For his dedication to the community, Dave was named to the Mingo Wall of

Fame. Dave loved his years in education and was so proud to see former students everywhere

he went and he remembered them all by name.

Dave served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a

lifetime member of the OEA, an avid coin collector and a member of the Jefferson County

Teachers Association. He was a proud member of the Steubenville Masonic Lodge 45 F @ AM,

Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Knight Masons. Dave was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal

Church in Steubenville, OH.

As a testament to his pure heart and warm smile, Dave was adored by children and dogs. They

were drawn to his kind, gentle manner that will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Calling hours are Tuesday, March 6 from 3-7 PM at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd.,

Wintersville, OH, where services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2108 at 10 AM led by Fr. Steven

McKeown. Masonic services Tuesday 3:30p.m.
