E. Virginia Price Obituary

E. Virginia Price, 102, of Wintersville, Ohio passed away surrounded by her family on July 17, 2022.  She was born in Steubenville, Ohio on July 8, 1920 a daughter of the late William M. & Edna K. McHugh Huston.  Virginia married the late John M. “Jack” Price on September 28, 1945 and was a faithful wife of 37 years until his passing on August 26, 1982.  She was also preceded in death by her sister Betty McCasland.  A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Virginia is survived by two sons William E. “Bill” (Anita) Price & John H. “Jack” Price; daughter Debra K. “Debbie” Arbaugh; eight grandchildren & ten great-grandchildren.

Virginia graduated from Wells High School and Steubenville Business College.  She was a member of Two Ridges Presbyterian Church and served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts as well as Cadet Girl Scout Co-leader with her good friend, JoAnn DeSantis.  She held classes in Wintersville to help Girl Scouts earn their Art Badge.

Virginia was an accomplished watercolorist whose interests varied from florals with their intricate abstract patterns to Victorian houses and aged objects with a sense of mystery.  She has conducted many watercolor workshops for Oglebay Institute and the Steubenville Art Association.  She served as a Trustee of the Steubenville Art Association and was a signature member of the Ohio Watercolor Society and the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society.

Winner of numerous awards, she won awards in national, state and regional exhibits, some of which include:  Ohio Watercolor Society (Grumbacher Gold Medal), Steubenville Art Association (Best of Show & Merits) and one of her crowning achievements, Salt Fork Festival (Governor’s Award, Best Ohio Scene Award, Senator John Glenn Award, First in Fine Art).  In 2014, Virginia was given a citation from the Ohio Senate naming Virginia Price Day.

Her work appears in many collections, both private and commercial, including the Governor’s Mansion of Ohio; Weirton Geriatric Center; Trinity East and West Hospitals and Guernsey Savings & Loan in Cambridge.  As a former artist for a West Virginia glass factory specializing in one-of-a-kind hand painted lamps, she painted special orders for former Governor Arch Moore, Senator William Hubbard, and former President Richard Nixon.

For the month of September 2020, Professor Yan Sun, Chairman of the Art Department at Muskingum College, arranged a one-woman show titled, “100 years of Art & Colorful Living” at the Louis O. Palmer Gallery on the campus of Muskingum College.  The show celebrated Virginia and her 100 years of art and watercolor pieces. 

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Friday July 22, 2022 from 3 pm to 6 pm where funeral services will be held on Saturday July 23, 2022 at 10 am with Rev. William Lawrence officiating.  Burial to follow at Two Ridges Cemetery.
