On Friday, February 14, 2020, John E. Rhueff, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 82 with his family by his side. He was born September 21, 1937 in Steubenville the son of the late John E. and Nellie Jones Rhueff, Sr. He graduated from SHS in 1955 and married his beloved Marlene in 1957. He retired after 37 years of service from Weirton Steel, a division of National Steel, as a salesman for the tin mill department. John was a member and past deacon at Starkdale Presbyterian Church and served on the board of The City Rescue Mission for over thirty years. John enjoyed working in his yard, being with his family and rescuing stray kittens.
He was known for his love of cars and was good at remodeling, over the years became involved in many projects with his son-in-law and daughter. He enjoyed going to Oglebay and eating at Mehlman’s. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister Betty Jane Rhueff Shields.
John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marlene J. Miller Rhueff; daughter Pam (Tom) Peterson; beloved granddaughter Gabrielle Peterson; nieces & nephews Randy (Debbie) Brobston, Beth Ann (Fred) Postlewait, Dennis (Teresa) Brobston, Susan (John) Rayl & Debbie Shields (Todd) McGivney.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Sunday 2-5 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Carl Moore officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Starkdale Presbyterian Church or Jefferson County Humane Society.
