Obituary
John W. Phillips Jr., 81, of Shreveport, LA., formerly of Steubenville, Ohio passed away on December 22, 2022 in Shreveport, LA. He was born on February 22, 1941 in Steubenville, Ohio a son of the late John W. & Elizabeth Phillips, Sr.
John lived most of his life in Steubenville and worked as a Sports Editor for the Steubenville Herald Star, Sports Editor and Managing Editor for the Weirton Daily Times and East Liverpool Review before finishing his newspaper career at the Wheeling Intelligencer.
John was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Pirates and West Virginia Mountaineers.
He will be missed, but we know he is happy in heaven with his family.
Besides his parents, John is preceded in death by his first wife Karen Retzer, two sisters Rena Noble & Beverly Haverfield and brother Matthew “Chickie” Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Donna Phillips of Shreveport LA, sister Janice (John) Monroe of Steubenville OH, stepson J.R. Liverman of Shreveport LA., four grandchildren and many nieces & nephews and great nieces & great nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life memorial service at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Saturday April 22, 2023, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Michael Surgenor officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery.
