Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Westlake, 76, of Groveport, Ohio passed away at Mount Carmel East Hospital on Monday, March 1, 2021. Betsy was born on April 14, 1944 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Margaret “Sis” and Albert “Abby” Taylor.
Betsy attended St Peter’s Catholic Church growing up and continued to practice her faith throughout her adult life. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1962. As a teenager she worked at People’s Drug Store. As a young adult, First National Bank employed her and she ended her career working for Jefferson County Mental Health in the medical records department. Betsy married Jack Sweeney in August 1966 with whom she has two children, Diana “Buffy” (Bruce) Sterling and John (Anita) Sweeney. Jack and Betsy, along with their spouses, Lynn and Bob, maintained a friendship throughout the years. Betsy married Robert “Bob” Westlake in March 1986 and were married for 34 years. Betsy had two bonus children with Bob, Diane (Anthony) Coronati and Daniel (Kim) Westlake. Betsy found great joy in all things big and small. A simple conversation, looking out her window and admiring nature, listening to music and dancing when her legs allowed. She became a great chair dancer in her later years. Most of all Betsy enjoyed time with family and friends. Family gatherings for holidays and birthday parties brought her much joy. She always said her family was her greatest accomplishment in life. Betsy was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren.
