Nancy K. Courtney Obituary

Nancy K. Courtney of Steubenville, OH, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 69.

Daughter of the late Donald L. Hobson and Laura M. (Brown) Hobson, Nancy was born on July 16, 1952, and raised on a farm near New Alexandria, OH.  After graduating from Brilliant High School in 1970, she earned a BA in art education from Asbury College in 1974 and taught for over 40 years.  She married Thomas R. Courtney on August 4, 1978, and they shared 37 years of wedded bliss as well as three children: Charles, Laura, and David.  In recent years, she found a special joy as the cherished grandmother of Graham, Louis, Elliott, and Jamie.  She was a faithful member of Restoration Church (formerly Ohio Valley Christian Center) for almost 50 years.  Mrs. Courtney was a dedicated teacher at Jefferson County Christian School where she served for 34 years and impacted the lives of generations of students; she also played a vital role in the growth of the school during her tenure as administrator.  Nancy was an avid quilter and painter and also served as the chaplain of the Fort Steuben Chapter of the DAR.

In addition to her parents, her husband preceded her in death.  Nancy is survived by her three children: Charles E. (Erin) Courtney of Indianapolis, IN; Laura E. Courtney of Johnstown, PA; and David T. (Crystal) Courtney of Geneva, IL, as well as her four grandsons.  She also leaves one sister, Donna (Larry) Dennis, and one brother, James Hobson, in addition to many other extended family members.

Visiting hours will be at Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Saturday from 3pm-7pm.  Services, conducted by Pastor Randy Sells, will be there on Sunday at 1pm.  Following the service she will be laid to rest at Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville next to the love of her life.  Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Jefferson County Christian School.

If you had the privilege of knowing Nancy Courtney, you would not forget her laugh, her commitment to Christian education, her creativity, and her devotion to her family. You also likely felt the love she generously lavished on all those she encountered.  Most importantly you would have known someone who embodied Matthew 5:16. She was a prayer warrior whose love and faithfulness pointed others to our Savior.
