Ruby L. Davidson Obituary

Ruby Louise Davidson  of  Steubenville was reunited with her husband Donald in the early morning hours of January 9, 2021 after passing away at the UPMC Passavant hospital in McCandless.  They no doubt rejoiced together before their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after many years of faithful service here on Earth.  Ruby was born on November 3, 1934 in Wallace, Harrison County, West Virginia to the late Eugene and Elsie Knight.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Jimmy, Roy, Ed, Fred, Bill, Beulah, Adeline, Annie, Evie, and Betty.   Ruby met Donald when he was a bus driver who liked to stop in at the Wheel Restaurant in Steubenville where she was a waitress.  They were married for over 60 years before Donald’s passing in 2016, raising their family in the Wintersville area.  She is survived by her four children, Linda (Jim) Taylor of Columbus, Donna (Tom) Price of Steubenville, Jim Davidson of Steubenville and Robbie (Madeline) Davidson of Springfield, MA; ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.  While being a wife and mother was her primary calling, Ruby worked for many years at the Denmarks Department Store.  Later in life she ran the deli counter at her family’s Hi-Way Express convenience store in Wellsburg where her chili dogs, homemade coleslaw, and other deli foods drew customers from all over northern West Virginia.  The job she enjoyed the most, though, was serving the students at Bantam Ridge Elementary as a cashier and cook in the school cafeteria.  Ruby’s years teaching Sunday School at the Wintersville Church of the Nazarene similarly reflected her great love for children.  As the Sunday School Superintendent, she organized many successful vacation Bible schools, Christmas programs, and social activities.  Ruby later found a church home at the Paris Church of the Nazarene and attended services at Gracepoint Church with her grandsons.  Ruby loved listening to gospel music and the great hymns of the Church, often singing duets on Sunday mornings with her dear friend Louise Tyson.  She was a skilled cook and baker known for her special “Nana’s Spaghetti” and a pumpkin pie recipe that may yet achieve the worldwide recognition it deserves.  Ruby might also have been known to watch a soap opera or two when Donald was on the road for his job with the Highway Oil Company.  Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Tuesday from 4-7p.m., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 10a.m. with Rev. Tom Price officiating.  Private burial.  Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, masks will be required and guests are requested to observe social distancing guidelines and not to linger after paying respects.
